Thank you for your interest in adopting! Although our application process is simple it is very important to ensure a successful and rewarding experience for all involved.

 

Step 1

Complete an adoption application. Once completed you will receive a message acknowledging our receipt of your application. Please be patient, an adoption counselor will be in touch shortly.

Please note that using our online application is the fastest and most reliable way to submit an application for adoption. If you are unable to access the online application you can download and submit a paper application by email or USPS. 

Click here to download a PDF of the Cat/Kitten Adoption Application. Please note that a signed Authorization and Disclosure / Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement (found here) must accompany each application. 

Step 2

Animal Nation Review & Investigation. During this step, an Animal Nation adoption counselor will review your application and check references to ensure each pet is placed in the most appropriate home. 

 

Step 3 

Schedule a Meet & Greet. If your application is approved, an adoption counselor will contact you to schedule a time for you to meet the pet you are interested in adopting. Please be patient and flexible when scheduling this appointment. Remember that our organization is run solely by volunteers most of whom work full or part time jobs.

 

Step 4

Adoption! If all goes well you will be welcoming a new pet into your home before you know it!

Fees apply to the adoption of all animals:

$150.00 for cats (over 1 year old)

$200.00 for kittens (under 1 year old)

$250.00 for dogs/puppies

Fees for birds and other exotic animals are specific to the species.

 

This fee offsets the cost of vetting and care provided to each animal prior to their option. Vetting includes spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, FIV/FELV testing for cats/kittens and heartworm/lyme testing for dogs/puppies.  Additional vetting is provided to those animals who arrive in a condition that warrants these services. Additional vetting may include services such as dentistry, radiography, ultrasound, condition-specific lab testing, surgery, etc. All of this is done to ensure each pet is in his or her best state of health prior to being welcomed into your home. 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our veterinary service partners who kindly discount their services and allow us to board animals in need of medical care until they are well enough for placement or foster care.

Adoption Center - Darien, Connecticut

Animal Nation has partnered with PetValu allowing us to operate a public adoption center at their Darien, Connecticut (click for map) location. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Appointments for meet-and-greet sessions and adoptions are made in advance through our application process as noted above. If you visit our adoption center without an appointment you may see one of our dedicated volunteers who work twice daily to feed, clean and socialize the cats. Unfortunately volunteers are not permitted to show cats during this time.
