Hi! My name is Lyra and I’m about 25 years old! I was with my original owner for 20 years until he gave me to a horse therapy program — which I failed on day 1 :) I was supposed to be sent back to my owner but he said he didn’t want me anymore. The only other option was to send me the auction to become meat but Animal Nation wasn’t letting that happen. I have some chronic health issues, but Animal Nation does all they need to to keep me safe, healthy, and comfortable.

Hi I’m Meadow! I spent my first several years of life used as an animal testing experiment for human eye medication. Over the last 9 years, I’ve grown to trust humans much more, but my past life can be seen in the scars on my back. The rescue who originally took me in closed, and so Animal Nation took me and my two old friends in. My friends have since passed, but I am enjoying my elder years grazing with Lyra and Kevin the Emu.

Hi! I’m Bam Bam - the newest hose rescue at Animal Nation! I was rescued from a horrible situation where I was left to starve to death. The amazing team at Rising Starr Horse Rescue took me in, got me healthy and fed me lots of nutritious food! Animal Nation adopted me back in June 2022 and I’ve been enjoying my freedom with my new friends Meadow, and Lyra!

Hi ! i’m Rita (left) and this is my mom Betty White (right)! We spent 5 years together in a mobile petting zoo where we were forced to interact with humans who didn’t always respect our space. We started to get clever, and realized if we kicked and spit on the children, we wouldn’t have to be in this hellish situation anymore. Luckily we weren’t sent to the slaughterhouse and instead taken in by Animal Nation who has treated us so kindly. Everyone here respects our space and doesn’t force us to interact with them. We arrived with some pretty serious medical issues. Our teeth were overgrown, we had to tilt our heads just to eat grass and our skin and eyes have permanent damage due to vitamin deficiencies which requires us to be seen by a specific eye doctor. You’ll find us grazing and getting along with all the other residents, and if you happen to have the hose while we’re nearby, we LOVE a good shower on hot summer days!
