140 Chickens Saved from Kaporos

Animal Nation took in 130 chickens after they fell off a transport truck in Brooklyn, NY on their way to the religious sacrifice known as Kaporos.

Kaporos happens each year along the streets of NYC and Rockland County where live chickens are used in the ritual as a way to transfer and absolve a person of their sins. The chicken is swung around the persons head while reciting a prayer and then slaughtered and left to bleed out.

130 of the chickens who fell off the transport truck are now SAFE at our sanctuary and permanent placement has been secured for them all at various sanctuaries along the East Coast.

We thank the the NYC ACC for calling and transporting these six-week old chickens to us. Upon arrival they were examined for injuries (crushed and broken toes are very common during transport, as they get stuck in between crates), fed, watered, and given time to explore their new found freedom.
