Farm Animal Sanctuary

Animal Nation's Farm Sanctuary has been located in South Salem, NY in Westchester County for over 20 years. Being the closest Sanctuary of it's kind to NYC, our organization has been a go-to resource for at-risk animals from NYC, to South Salem, and everywhere in between -- and beyond!

The Sanctuary is home to more than 250 animals including horses, sheep, goats, llamas, pigs, turkeys, chickens, two emus as well as domestic rabbits, ducks, geese and other birds who were abandoned, abused, escaped slaughterhouses, saved from hoarding situations, surrendered, or otherwise in distress. If you are interested in giving a rescued farm animal a forever home, visit our Farm Animal Adoption Application here

Our sanctuary is currently undergoing construction and not open to the public. Check back in 2023 for events and tour dates!

MEET OUR FARM FAMILY

Hi! My name is Wilbur! I find so much appreciation for my freedom and ability to roam through the flowers at Animal Nation after the difficult life I used to live. I spent two years tied to a tree with a dog harness that eventually became embedded into my skin. The people who I thought would be my forever family eventually surrendered me to Animal Nation. Now I know for sure, this is my forever home!

I’m Tucker! I was rescued off of a transport truck on its way to a slaughterhouse in Maine, by one of our volunteers! I arrived to Animal Nation with a very painful abscess the size of a cantaloupe — making it very hard for me to eat. I spent my first two weeks with Animal Nation moving between the sanctuary and one of our partner veterinarian hospitals because I required so much medical care. My abscess required surgery but now you can find me jumping around the barnyard just begging to be loved and petted! I am always down for a cuddle session!

My name is Layla! I have lived at Animal Nation for over 15 years and I’m 21 years old! I came to the sanctuary after being a victim of a serious neglect and cruelty case. I lost countless friends to starvation but arrived at Animal Nation with Annie the goat and 3 sheep. All of our other friends did'n’t make it. Annie was my absolute best friend, but has since passed away. I have been thriving here for so many years and have taken it upon myself to check on every animal and every guest in the barnyard. If you don’t see me… just turn around :)

I’m Kevin! I was rescued from a slaughter farm in Delaware that breeds and raises emus like me for our oil that is used in medical and cosmetic treatments. When you come visit the sanctuary you’ll be told that you cannot walk around by yourself without an experienced volunteer — that’s because of me :) You’ll know I'm close by when you first hear my deep drumming noise, and then when I try to eviscerate you. I don’t mean harm, I’m just being protective!
